Setting access privileges

When you create a share point, you can set three kinds of access privileges (or none) for three user categories.

Setting explicit access privileges

To define explicit access privileges for a share point or shared item:
1 Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer.
2 Press the Privileges button and choose Show Disks & Shared Items.
3 Select a shared item or disk.
    4 Click the Privileges button.
5 If you want to change the owner of this item, open the Users & Groups List and drag a user or group to the Owner box.
6 Choose access privileges from the Owner pop-up menu.
7 To change User/Group privileges for this item, drag a user or group from the Users & Groups List to the User/Group box in the Privileges window.
8 Choose access privileges from the User/Group pop-up menu.
9 Choose access privileges from the Everyone pop-up menu.

Setting access privileges of enclosed folders

To set access privileges for folders contained within a shared item:
1 Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer.
2 Press the Privileges button and choose Show Disks & Shared Items.
3 Locate and select the folder whose access privileges you want to assign to enclosed folders.
    4 Click the Privileges button.
    5 Click Copy.

Resetting adopted access privileges

By default, a folder adopts the access privileges of the item that contains it. If you have previously set explicit privileges for the folder, you can reset it to adopt access privileges.

To reset a folder to adopt access privileges:
1 Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer.
2 Press the Privileges button and choose Show Disks & Share Points.
3 Locate and select the folder that will adopt access privileges.
    4 Click the Privileges button.
    5 Click Copy.

Examining a user's access privileges

The administrator (the owner of the computer running AppleShare IP) can easily examine a user's access privileges:
Log on to the shared item with the user name and the administrator password.
